South is 1-9 against Arvin since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Spartans will take on the Bears at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, South put up the most points they have all season on Tuesday. They put the hurt on West with a sharp 23-10 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Josh Encinas made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Encinas was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his six plate appearances.

In other batting news, Alex Portillo was a standout: he got on base in five of his six plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jose Bojorquez, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Arvin beat North 12-7 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bears.
Like South, Arvin also got a great game from a two-way player: Alex Nunez. He struck out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Nunez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Daniel Ramirez was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Fabian Pedroza also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Arvin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
The victory got Arvin back to even at 6-6. As for South, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
South came up short against Arvin in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 6-2. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
