Basketball Recap: Banning Lewis Academy Snaps Ten-Game Streak of Wins at Home

After flying high against Meeker back in December of 2024, Banning Lewis Academy came back down to earth. The Banning Lewis Academy Stallions fell just short of The Vanguard School Coursers by a score of 70-67 on Friday. The Stallions were not able to make up for their defeat to the Coursers from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Banning Lewis Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Lebron, who posted 21 points along with five assists and three steals. Lebron is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 19 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Canon Meyer, who earned nine points along with seven boards and five assists.

Even though they lost, Banning Lewis Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

The Vanguard School's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Isaiah Bregard, who had 18 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Matty Dessalegn, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 boards.

Banning Lewis Academy's defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-3. As for The Vanguard School, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Banning Lewis Academy will square off against Manitou Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for The Vanguard School, they will take on Forge Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in The Vanguard School's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
