If the Vista del Lago Eagles were riding high off their 67-17 takedown of the Sacramento Dragons last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Vista del Lago took a 48-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Christian Brothers on Wednesday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Vista del Lago has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Vista del Lago lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ella Skrzyniarz. Despite the final result, she scored 19 points along with five rebounds. Skrzyniarz has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Pallari, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Christian Brothers to victory, but perhaps none more so than Olivia Novi, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Novi has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Joy Omishakin was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.
Vista del Lago's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Christian Brothers, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 12-4.
Vista del Lago will look to defend their home court on Monday against El Camino at 7:00 p.m. El Camino will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 640th, while Vista del Lago is ranked 112th). As for Christian Brothers, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Francis at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. St. Francis is on a four-game streak of home wins, Christian Brothers a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
