The Azusa Aztecs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They suffered a tough 47-24 defeat at the hands of Sierra Vista. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Azusa in their matchups with Sierra Vista: they've now lost five in a row.
Sierra Vista got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Cailei Buna out in front who scored 18 points along with six steals and five rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Buna has scored at least a third of Sierra Vista's points. Zaira Eulloque was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Azusa has been struggling recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Sierra Vista, their victory bumped their record up to 9-10.
Azusa will head out on the road to challenge Workman at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Workman comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Sierra Vista, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Nogales at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Nogales is hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses.
