The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Newport in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now lost four in a row.
Leading Greenwood to victory were Bekah Brinser and Leah Ritzman. Brinser scored 12 points along with four steals, while Ritzman scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five blocks. Brinser hasn't dropped below four steals for four straight games. Sophia Jezewski was another key contributor, scoring four points along with three steals.
Newport has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season. As for Greenwood, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-8.
Newport will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Indians at 7:30 p.m. As for Greenwood, they will head out on the road to face off against the Tigers at 12:00 p.m. on Monday.
