Even though the Pacifica Mariners have not done well against the Kennedy Fighting Irish recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Pacifica snuck past Kennedy with a 52-47 win. Given Pacifica's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 267th, while Kennedy is ranked 613th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Fighting Irish players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Madeleine Hsu, who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and 2 assists. Hsu continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Elizabeth Tirona, who scored 12 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Pacifica and bumps their season record up to 17-4. As for Kennedy, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-13.
Pacifica will look to defend their home court on Friday against Cypress at 6:15 p.m. Hopefully Cypress focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Tuesday. As for Kennedy, they will head out on the road to face off against Valencia at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
