Basketball Game Preview: Pleasant Grove Eagles vs. Chavez Titans

The Pleasant Grove Eagles and the Chavez Titans will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Pleasant Grove is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.3 points per game this season.

While Pleasant Grove didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 55-44 win over Sacramento on Tuesday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while the Dragons are ranked 459th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kate Myers continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds. Her evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Anniyah Banks, who went 7 of 10 en route to 14 points and five rebounds.

Pleasant Grove smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 18 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Chavez was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 38-27 to River Islands.

Pleasant Grove has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.5 points per game. As for Chavez, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-10.

Everything came up roses for Pleasant Grove against Chavez in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, as the squad secured a 62-22 victory. In that game, Pleasant Grove amassed a halftime lead of 38-9, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Monday.
