Tokay has gone 8-2 against Galt recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Tokay Tigers will head out to square off against the Galt Warriors at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Tokay has three straight victories, Galt has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
Tokay is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing River Islands: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Tokay blew River Islands out of the water with a 48-13 final score. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 30-5.
Thalia Chavez continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 19 points and five steals. Tokay is 10-4 when Chavez posts five or more steals, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaiyanna Landry, who posted seven points and six steals.
Meanwhile, Galt ended up a good deal behind Oakmont on Friday and lost 47-28. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1111th, while the Vikings are ranked 458th).
Tokay will need focus on slowing down Izabella Cathey, one of several Galt players who made an impact when they last played. She had two points and 13 rebounds. Alexandra Gonzalez Landa was another key player, posting nine points.
Even though they lost, Galt smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 32 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive contests.
Tokay's win bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Galt, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Tokay has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 34.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Galt struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Tokay against Galt in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, as the team secured a 48-18 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Tokay since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
