The Fairbury Jeffs will head out to challenge the Highway 6 Trailblazers at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Fairbury has given up an average of 10.9 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Fairbury came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 11-1 to Wilber-Clatonia. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Jeffs couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, the third road game was the charm for Highway 6, as they earned their first away win of the season. They came out on top against Southern Valley/Alma by a score of 7-3 on Thursday. Surprisingly, this marked the Trailblazers' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Addisyn Norris made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Katherine Marshall was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Stella Birkestrand also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Highway 6 is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Fairbury, their loss dropped their record down to 6-17.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Fairbury hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Highway 6 struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Fairbury took their win against Highway 6 when the teams last played back in September of 2024 by a conclusive 13-6 score. Do the Jeffs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trailblazers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
