The South Pointe Stallions entered their tilt with the Lower Richland Diamond Hornets with nine consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with ten. South Pointe walked away with a 68-56 win over Lower Richland on Saturday. Given South Pointe's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while Lower Richland is ranked 75th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Pointe to victory, but perhaps none more so than Serenity Woods, who scored 27 points. The contest was Woods' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kaleigh Lucas, who scored 15 points along with six assists.
Lower Richland's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taelor Hiller-Johnson, who scored 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. Jhnai Sumter was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds.
South Pointe's victory bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Lower Richland, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Pointe will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Catawba Ridge at 6:15 p.m. on January 9th. Lower Richland will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against River Bluff at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th.
