The Azusa Aztecs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight defeat. They were the victim of a rough 47-25 loss at the hands of Sierra Vista. Azusa has not had much luck with the Dons recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Azusa lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Lilliana Maldonado, who scored 11 points. Another player making a difference was Evelin Villalva, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Azusa struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Sierra Vista racked up 12 assists.
Sierra Vista got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zaira Eulloque out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Cailei Buna, who scored ten points along with five assists and three steals.
Azusa has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 14 of their last 16 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season. As for Sierra Vista, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-10.
Azusa will be playing at home against the Lobos at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Workman is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for Sierra Vista, they will head out on the road to face off against the Nobles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
