The Laguna Beach Breakers will head out to take on the Downey Vikings at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Laguna Beach is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
If Laguna Beach beats Downey with six runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Breakers walked away with a 6-1 victory over Dana Hills on Wednesday. The win was familiar territory for the Breakers, who have now won three contests in a row.
Branson Wade spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Otis Boultinghouse, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lincoln Adams, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Downey not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 2, 2025 (when they won 9-0). They never let Venice get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory.
Downey also got a great performance from Ozzy De La Cruz as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave De La Cruz a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Chris Palacios was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Eddie Causley, who earned one RBI and two runs.
Laguna Beach's record now sits at 3-1. As for Downey, their record is now 5-2.
Downey's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Laguna Beach hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. It's a different story for Downey, though, as they've only averaged .251. Will they be able to contain Laguna Beach's hitters?
