Two dominant players in Madeleine De Kodia and Ashirah Williams are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Aquinas Falcons and the Elsinore Tigers will round out the year against one another at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at. Aquinas has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Aquinas scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 80-22 win over Woodcrest Christian at home. The result was nothing new for Aquinas, who have now won four games by 29 points or more so far this season.
Aquinas can attribute much of their success to Madeleine Barker, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds, and De Kodia, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten steals. The match was De Kodia's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Perrine Allou, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Elsinore came up short against Corona on Thursday and fell 48-40. While losing is never fun, Elsinore can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 834th, while Corona is ranked 291st).
Marisol Diaz put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Williams, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Aquinas' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.7 points per game. As for Elsinore, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Aquinas have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Elsinore, though, as they've been averaging only 41.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
