After four games on the road, East Nicolaus is heading back home. They will take on the Weed Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Saturday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, East Nicolaus beat Loyalton 38-32. The win was just what East Nicolaus needed coming off of a 45-25 loss in their prior game.
Rylee Gillespie and Makinze Massey were among the main playmakers for East Nicolaus as the former scored 13 points along with 9 steals and 6 assists and the latter dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Massey has scored at least 25% of East Nicolaus' points.
Meanwhile, Weed put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Butte Valley 50-29.
It was another big night for Renaissance Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 10 rebounds. The contest was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Annabelle McCarthy, who scored 8 points along with 13 rebounds.
The losses dropped East Nicolaus to 3-2 and Loyalton to 1-3.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: East Nicolaus have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Weed struggles in that department as they've been even better at 51.8 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
