The Mountain View Academy Mustangs put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 67-39 victory over DCP Alum Rock at home. Mountain View Academy has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 28 points or more this season.
Mountain View Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Audrey Mackey led the charge by scoring 31 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mackey has scored all season. Leilani Wright was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds.
DCP Alum Rock's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Estrella Sanchez, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. That was a full 38.5% of DCP Alum Rock's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Carolina Carbajal, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, DCP Alum Rock were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Mountain View Academy pushed their record up to 7-0 with that victory, which was their tenth straight at home. As for DCP Alum Rock, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mountain View Academy will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on El Primero at 4:30 p.m. on January 30th. As for DCP Alum Rock, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against KIPP San Jose Collegiate at 5:00 p.m. KIPP San Jose Collegiate comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last five games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
