Basketball Recap: Sahuaro's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak on the Road

Sahuaro lost against Salpointe Catholic back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Sahuaro Cougars took a 55-38 bruising from the Salpointe Catholic Lancers. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while the Lancers are ranked first).

When it comes to explaining why Sahuaro lost, don't look at Maggie Boyd. Despite the final result, she posted seven points along with 13 boards and three blocks. Those 13 rebounds gave Boyd a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Biale Sika, who scored five points in addition to eight boards and five blocks.

Salpointe Catholic's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sidney Anderson, who earned nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Anderson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hannah Williams, who had 17 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Sahuaro's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-7. As for Salpointe Catholic, they pushed their record up to 18-4 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sahuaro will take on Walden Grove at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Salpointe Catholic, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Mica Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Salpointe Catholic's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six games.
