The Manteca Buffaloes had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Their defense stepped up to hand Del Campo a 2-0 shutout on Saturday. Given Manteca's advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 127th, while Del Campo is ranked 469th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Manteca was led to victory by the tag-team duo of
Alexia Alva and
Joanna Roa, who scored both of Manteca's goals. The pair have combined for a total of 60 so far this season.
Manteca is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which somehow isn't as good as their 22-2-3 record this season. As for Del Campo, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10-2 record this season.
Manteca will square off against Christian Brothers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Del Campo does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
