The Gregori Jaguars entered their tilt with the Enochs Eagles with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Gregori came out on top against Enochs by a score of 60-47 on Tuesday. Given Gregori's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 426th, while Enochs is ranked 1008th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gregori was led to victory by Veronica Whitten and Alanah Lopez. Whitten dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Lopez scored 23 points along with three steals. Whitten has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lilly Staggs, who scored 11 points along with five steals.
When it comes to explaining why Enochs lost, one person who can't be blamed is Natalie Quinones. Despite the final result, she scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Gurleen Gill, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Even though they lost, Enochs were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Gregori pushed their record up to 12-8 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Enochs, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-12.
Gregori will head out on the road to challenge Modesto at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Modesto comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Enochs, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pitman at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Pitman focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 on Tuesday.
