The Torres Toros's found some homefield redemption this week after a tough overtime loss to the Roosevelt Rough Riders on Friday. Torres blew past the Highlanders 63-36 at home. Given Torres' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 460th, while the Highlanders are ranked 925th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sabrina Cerrillo continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 32 points along with five rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kaylin Perez, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Several Highlanders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Valeria Cerda, who scored 13 points. That was a full 36.1% of McLane's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mylene Huerta, who scored 11 points.
Torres pushed their record up to 15-8 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for McLane, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-14.
Torres will head out on the road to challenge the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for McLane, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. Sunnyside is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.
