Redding Christian is 10-0 against Burney since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Redding Christian Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Burney Raiders at 6:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Tuesday, Redding Christian was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 47-41 to Quincy.
Meanwhile, Burney's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Quincy on the road and fell 63-27. While losing is never fun, Burney can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 909th, while Quincy is ranked 401st).
Despite the loss, Burney saw an underclassman step up: Natalia Maldonado scored seven points along with four steals. Maldonado is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jocelyn Metzger, who scored four points along with two steals.
Redding Christian's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-6. As for Burney, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.
Redding Christian beat Burney 45-33 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Does Redding Christian have another victory up their sleeve, or will Burney turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
