Girard has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Northwestern Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Girard will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 614th, while the Wildcats are ranked 150th).
Last Monday, Girard didn't have too much trouble with the Rockets at home as they won 40-25. The win was just what Girard needed coming off of a 63-11 defeat in their prior match.
Meanwhile, Northwestern waltzed into their matchup on Monday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They walked away with a 47-37 victory over Mercyhurst Prep.
Makayla Presser-palmer continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 15 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 16 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Schwartz, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Girard's victory ended a eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-12. As for Northwestern, they pushed their record up to 16-3 with that victory, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Girard was taken down by the Wildcats 52-24 in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Presser-palmer, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 16 rebounds. Now that Girard knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
