Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mercy). They came out on top against the Buena Vista Bison on Monday by a score of 15-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The high-scoring effort was just what the Monarchs needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Alexis Nuefind made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, earning three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Mercy got a massive performance out of Audrey Batenhorst, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Batenhorst has posted since back in August of 2024. Another player making a difference was Macie Goliber, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run.
Mercy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buena Vista only posted an OBP of .133.
Mercy moved to 6-14 with that win, which also ended their five-game losing streak. As for Buena Vista, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.
Mercy will head out to take on Fort Calhoun at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Buena Vista, they will host Benson at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bunnies have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.71 runs per game on average), something the Bison will no doubt try to take advantage of.
