Bishop Diego is 7-1 against Cate since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Cardinals will face off against the Rams at 3:30 p.m. Bishop Diego has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with 19 straight losses, while Cate will come in with six straight wins.
Bishop Diego came up short against Thacher on Thursday, falling 16-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cate). They were the clear victors by a 20-3 margin over Santa Clara on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Rams with their most commanding win of the season.
Peter Lehman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Noah Casbarro and Quinn Pullen did most of the damage at the plate: Casbarro went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Pullen went 1-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Pullen has been hot, having also posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played. Jonah Van also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Cate kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santa Clara only managed three hits.
Cate pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Diego, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9.
Bishop Diego might still be hurting after the 15-1 loss they got from Cate when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
