There's no place like home for the Laney Buccaneers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Wakefield on Saturday and snuck past 60-58. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Among those leading the charge was Jaquan Bowen, who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds. That's the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. Shark Baynard was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
Laney's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.4 points per game. As for Wakefield, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-1.
Laney and Hoggard will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hoggard will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 138th, while Laney is ranked 35th). As for Wakefield, they will head out on the road to face off against Broughton at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Broughton is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
