Last Friday, Chavez came up short against Verdugo Hills and fell 43-30. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Chavez in their matchups with Verdugo Hills: they've now lost seven in a row.
Meanwhile, Arleta can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They really took it to Grant for the full four quarters, racking up a 55-25 victory at home. Winning may never get old, but Arleta sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Aaliyah Serpas continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a triple-double on 26 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 14 times she's played. Aakira Smith was another key contributor, scoring five points along with six steals and five assists.
Chavez has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. As for Arleta, their win bumped their record up to 11-9.
Chavez took a serious blow against Arleta when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 64-17.
