Auburn came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Algonquin Regional Titans 9-7. That's more bragging rights for the Rockets, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Jayden Ortiz was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Rex Vartabedian was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Auburn's record is now 12-7. As for Algonquin Regional, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season.

Auburn will face off against Clinton at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Gaels' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Rockets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Algonquin Regional does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
