Gilroy are taking a road trip to square off against Pioneer at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Gilroy is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
While Gilroy didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Lynbrook by a score of 17-14 on Thursday.

Evan Passama was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brennan Neander, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Gilroy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .568. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pioneer). They never let Evergreen Valley get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory on Wednesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Preston Bright and Brandon Teixiera made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Bright pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Teixiera struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). At bat, Bright went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Teixiera got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one double. That triple was Bright's first of the season.
In other pitching news, Connor Cerveny looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Griffin Bacon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Marcus Martinez was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Gilroy's record is now 4-0. As for Pioneer, their record now sits at 3-1.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gilroy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .429. However, it's not like Pioneer struggles in that department as they've averaged .340. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gilroy skirted past Pioneer 4-3 when the teams last played back in February of 2019. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gilroy since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
