The Torres Toros will take on the Minarets Mustangs at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Torres is headed out to face Minarets after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. The Toros had just enough and edged out Hoover 9-8 on Tuesday.
Juan Gil made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gil was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Caden Warden was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Matthew Escoto was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, Minarets made easy work of Central on Saturday and carried off an 11-1 win.
Like Torres, Minarets also got a great game from a two-way player: Jamie Spurgeon. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Spurgeon was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two triples, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaydon VonWagner, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases and two runs. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Amari Mattier, who went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases and one run.
Minarets always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central only posted an OBP of .222.
Torres got the 'W' when the teams last played back in May of 2025 against Minarets by a conclusive 12-6 score. Will the Toros repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
