Near the halfway point of the Nebraska high school volleyball season, we combed through the MaxPreps volleyball statistics leaderboards in search of the Cornhusker State's top performances. And there were plenty.
Starting with Fremont outside hitter Mattie Dalton's 36-kill, 17-dig performance through Hershey star Emma Hall's 28 kill, 16 dig and 10 set assists, Cornhusker State volleyballers appear to be performing at a high level.
Diller-Odell senior Karli Heidemann pushed Dalton at the top with a 33 kill, 28 dig and 16 serves received performance. However, Dalton's 36 kills, 17 digs and 34 serves received was too much to overcome.
St. Mary's makes the No. 3 line with Myra Hedstrom's 26 kill performance in a 3-2 triumph over Omaha Burke while Dalton sits fourth with her second Top 5 performance, this time a triple double effort against Lincoln Northeast. Jadyn Bowman of Thayer Central rounds out the Top 5 with a triple double against Fairbury.
Classes A, B, C1, C2 and D2 are all represented in this week's Top 10. But that doesn't mean there weren't magnificent performances in Class D1 as well. Cedar Catholic senior Laney Kathol's 27 kills, 12 digs and 16 serves received against Lutheran-Northeast led Class D1.
Dalton is the only Nebraska high school volleyball player to make this week's Top 10 twice after grabbing the top spot and sitting fourth with 31 kills in a 3-2 win over Lincoln Northeast. Fremont took up a third rung when sophomore Kate Denker claimed the No. 9 spot with 52 set assists in a 3-2 loss to Lincoln North Star.
Humphrey St. Francis nearly took up a pair of spots in the Top 10 when Kylee Wessel finished eighth with 29 kills and 37 digs in a 3-2 triumph over Goldenrod Conference foe Fullerton. Senior setter Emma Baumgart scored enough points to take over the No. 9 spot when she dug up 18 balls and accounted for 50 set assists in the win over the Warriors. Baumgart, however, needed to tally points in one of the other four statistical categories in order to qualify.
