Basketball Recap: Mater Dei Skates Past Highland with Ease

Mater Dei had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They took their contest with ease, bagging an 84-22 win over the Highland Bulldogs. The Monarchs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 35 points or more this season.

Mater Dei got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Luke Barnett out in front who posted 25 points. Barnett's afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Evan Willis, who earned 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Mater Dei smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Mater Dei is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.1 points per game. As for Highland, they now have a losing record at 7-8.

Mater Dei didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 99-35 win against Hoover on the 28th. As for Highland, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 65-57 defeat against Stanwood on the 28th.
