The Elk Grove Thundering Herd's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 14th straight loss. They suffered a tough 44-22 loss at the hands of El Camino. Elk Grove was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-9.
They got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of
 Kaylee Venegas and
Sauliloa Hafoka, who each put up seven points.
El Camino was led to victory by Kiena Thomas and Noelle Potratz. Thomas dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, while Potratz scored eight points along with 15 rebounds and two blocks. Potratz is absolutely dominating the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Cosette Coles was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Elk Grove dropped their record down to 3-16 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.8 points per game. As for El Camino, their win bumped their record up to 13-11.
Elk Grove won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Pleasant Grove at 6:30 p.m. on January 24th. Hopefully Pleasant Grove focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Friday. As for El Camino, they will head out on the road to challenge Del Campo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Del Campo has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 12.
