The South Point Red Raiders will take on the East Gaston Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Last Tuesday, South Point came up short against Forestview and fell 11-7. The Red Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Taylyn Ledford made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Annie Risk was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, East Gaston entered their tilt with Stuart W. Cramer on Tuesday with nine consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with ten. They never let the Storm get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 contests by nine runs or more this season.
Hannah Massey was a standout: she scored two runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kendra Anderson, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
East Gaston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in eight consecutive games.
East Gaston's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for South Point, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-5.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Point hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .387. However, it's not like East Gaston struggles in that department as they've averaged .442. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South Point was able to grind out a solid victory over East Gaston when the teams last played back in March, winning 12-7. Will the Red Raiders repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
