Evan Corrigan made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Brody Barnard was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Calvin Peck was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Milton let Vergennes stack four runs on them in the sixth inning on Tuesday but luckily Milton prevailed anyway. The Yellowjackets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Commodores. The win continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their matchups with the Commodores: they've now won five in a row.
Sawyer DiMario spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maxton Greenfield, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Milton's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 2-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Brody Allard, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Milton's victory bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Mt. Abraham, their win bumped their record up to 11-1-1.
Milton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mt. Abraham has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .463. It's a different story for Milton, though, as they've only averaged .356. Will they be able to contain Mt. Abraham's hitters?
Everything went Mt. Abraham's way against Milton in their previous meeting last Saturday, as Mt. Abraham made off with a 14-2 victory. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Yellowjackets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
