The Pittsburg Pirates will head out on the road to take on the Liberty Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pittsburg will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 694th, while the Lions are ranked 183rd).
Last Friday, Pittsburg suffered a tough 60-36 defeat at the hands of the Patriots. Pittsburg has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Liberty put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They breezed by Deer Valley at home to the tune of 72-18. Winning may never get old, but Liberty sure is getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
Lea Salinas beamen and Madison Perea were among the main playmakers for Liberty as the former dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds and the latter dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. Perea hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for ten straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Aly Acosta, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Pittsburg has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. As for Liberty, they pushed their record up to 15-9 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
Pittsburg was dealt a bruising 72-36 defeat at the hands of the Lions in their previous meeting back in January. Can Pittsburg avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
