The Taft Wildcats scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Wasco with a sharp 63-39 victory. That's another feather in the cap for Taft, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Taft's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alaysia Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 17 rebounds. Taira Leota was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 17 rebounds.
Wasco's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Genesis Epinosa, who scored six points. Another player making a difference was Camila Almanza, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Taft's win bumped their record up to 10-14. As for Wasco, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 13 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-22 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Taft will take on Delano at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Taft focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday. As for Wasco, they will head out on the road to take on Shafter at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Shafter has 14 straight victories, Wasco has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
