Taft is 8-2 against Shafter since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wildcats will host the Generals at 6:30 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Taft has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Shafter will arrive with seven straight wins.
Taft made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Wasco, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wildcats fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 5-3 on Thursday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 16, 2024, but that streak is no more.
Taft saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ben Nuncio, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Shafter came out on top against Kennedy on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Generals were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Thunderbirds. Considering the Generals have won five contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Henry Wiebe and Jesiah Rodriguez did most of the damage at the plate: Wiebe got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run, while Rodriguez earned two RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that Rodriguez has snagged this season. Noah Martinez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Taft's defeat dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Shafter, their victory bumped their record up to 10-5.
Taft's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's matchup. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Shafter, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Taft continue to outrun the ball?
Taft couldn't quite finish off Shafter when the teams last played back in April of 2025 and fell 10-8. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
