It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Woodland Christian had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Durham Trojans a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won 22 contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Jayden Badhesha made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Jordan Villanueva and Jandro Torres did most of the damage at the plate: Villanueva went 1-for-2 with three runs and one stolen base, while Torres went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Villanueva is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Tessier, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.
Woodland Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Durham only posted an OBP of .300.
The victory (which was Woodland Christian's tenth in a row) raised their record to 27-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Durham, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 20-9 record.
As of now, neither Woodland Christian nor the Trojans have any future games scheduled.
