The Warrior Run Defenders lost against the Hughesville Spartans back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Warrior Run suffered a tough 65-39 defeat at the hands of Hughesville. While losing is never fun, Warrior Run can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 226th, while Hughesville is ranked 48th).
Hughesville got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Maddie Smith out in front who scored 24 points along with nine rebounds. The contest was Smith's third in a row with at least ten points. Ava Snyder was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six assists and six rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Warrior Run and nudges their season record down to 5-4. As for Hughesville, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Warrior Run will square off against Loyalsock Township at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Hughesville, they will head out on the road to face off against Southern Columbia Area at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Southern Columbia Area: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Hughesville has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road.
