After a string of five wins, the Marshall Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of Gabrielino by a score of 38-35. Marshall has not had much luck with Gabrielino recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Marshall lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Madelyn Degooyer, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Destiny Ihiaso was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds.
Mia Lim continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Gabrielino, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Lim hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Banh, who scored five points along with five steals.
Marshall's loss dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Gabrielino, they pushed their record up to 12-7 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marshall will take on Rosemead at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Rosemead will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 787th, while Marshall is ranked 358th). As for Gabrielino, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against South El Monte at 5:00 p.m.
