Apple Valley is 8-2 against Hesperia since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Apple Valley Sun Devils will host the Hesperia Scorpions at 3:15 p.m. Apple Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Apple Valley barely beat Serrano the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Apple Valley blew past Serrano 21-2 on Tuesday. The Sun Devils have beaten the Diamondbacks the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Diamondbacks has come to flipping the script.
Christopher Alvarez was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Alvarez was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isaiah Reveron, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Ethyn Doyle was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-5.
Apple Valley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Hesperia unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 9-5 to Burroughs.
Hesperia saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josh Flores, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another was Carlos Ramirez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Apple Valley pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Hesperia, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Apple Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. However, it's not like Hesperia struggles in that department as they've averaged .455. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
