Miramonte has gone a perfect 5-0 against Mt. Diablo recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Matadors will look to defend their home field against the Red Devils at 4:30 p.m. Miramonte's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Mt. Diablo's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Miramonte is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Benicia just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Thursday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (5-2), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Alex Heath was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 6.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Miramonte saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was George Gilbert, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Mt. Diablo entered their tilt with Richmond on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Oilers 13-5. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Giovanni Ferrer and Johnny Vazquez made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Ferrer tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Meanwhile, Vazquez struck out 13 batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2025. At the plate, Ferrer got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs, while Vazquez went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Vazquez is becoming a predictor of Mt. Diablo's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Erick Becerra was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Mt. Diablo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Mt. Diablo's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Miramonte, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.
Everything went Miramonte's way against Mt. Diablo in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, as Miramonte made off with a 23-0 win. Will the Matadors repeat their success, or do the Red Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
