Given Mountain View Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 682nd, while East Palo Alto Academy is ranked 1377th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mountain View Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Leilani Wright out in front who scored 12 points along with six steals and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Audrey Mackey, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, DCP Alum Rock came tearing into Thursday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Mid-Peninsula 44-5 at home.
Mountain View Academy's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. As for DCP Alum Rock, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 13-6 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Mountain View Academy against DCP Alum Rock in their previous meeting back in January as the team secured a 67-39 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mountain View Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
