The Lakeland Dreadnaughts had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.8 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They came out on top against Tampa Catholic by a score of 72-65. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Leading Lakeland to victory were Jamesion Young and Shanard Clower. Young scored 19 points along with five rebounds, while Clower scored 21 points along with six steals and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Clower has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Orenthal Tinsley, who scored seven points along with five assists.
Tampa Catholic's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Colby Cannizzaro, who scored 19 points along with five assists. Isaiah Campbell-Finch was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Lakeland pushed their record up to 15-2 with that victory, which was their tenth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.7 points per game. As for Tampa Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakeland won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Sebring at 8:00 p.m. on January 25th. Sebring knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matches -- so hopefully Lakeland likes a good challenge. As for Tampa Catholic, they will head out on the road to take on The Villages Charter at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (The Villages Charter is ranked 105th, while Tampa Catholic is ranked 82nd).
