The El Camino Real Royals will challenge the Birmingham Patriots at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. El Camino Real will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
El Camino Real is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They came out on top against Granada Hills Charter by a score of 6-2.
Luke Howe made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other pitching news, Devin Gonor looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Luigi Tanner, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Adan Viner, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
El Camino Real hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Birmingham had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Poly on Wednesday as they made off with a 9-1 win. The Patriots not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 11th (when they won 9-0).
El Camino Real pushed their record up to 21-8 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Birmingham, their victory bumped their record up to 18-11.
El Camino Real came out on top in a nail-biter against Birmingham in their previous meeting last Thursday, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Royals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
