Basketball Recap: Rykevius Logan's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Emerald over Crescent

Emerald fought the good fight in their overtime game against Crescent on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 53-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Crescent Tigers. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 71-44.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rykevius Logan, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Those 19 points gave Logan a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Damarquis Hopkins, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Emerald was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crescent only racked up 11 assists.

Crescent was led to victory by Jas'Yiah Davis and Philip Deveaux. Davis went 6 of 14 on his way to 19 points and five steals, while Deveaux went 6 of 12 on his way to 17 points. Davis is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games.

Emerald now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Crescent, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Emerald wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 67-46 defeat against Greenwood on the 13th. As for Crescent, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-28 loss against St. Joseph's Catholic on the 13th.
