The American Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the Milpitas Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. American is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
On Friday, American needed a bit of extra time to put away Arroyo. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Dons 4-3. While the Eagles didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Eric Keesis was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Maverick Pinkevich was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Drew Tondag, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
American kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Milpitas came up short against Westmont on Saturday and fell 5-1.
Milpitas saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Keefe, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base was Keefe's first of the season.
Milpitas' loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-4. As for American, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 7-1.
Milpitas' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: American has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .458. It's a different story for Milpitas, though, as they've only averaged .358. Will they be able to contain American's hitters?
