Baseball Recap: Monday's Victory Is Vasquez's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

Vasquez was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Academy for Academic Excellence on Monday. Vasquez was the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over Academy for Academic Excellence. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Vasquez got a great performance from Ace Medina as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.

At the plate, Landon McGriff was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Brandon Vasquez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Vasquez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Academy for Academic Excellence only posted an OBP of .304.

Vasquez has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. Academy for Academic Excellence is on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Vasquez wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, an 8-7 loss against Littlerock on the 27th. As for Academy for Academic Excellence, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy at 3:45 p.m. on April 1.
