Elias Reyes looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of South Hills' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't).
At the plate, Diego Villarreal and Ayden Vieth did most of the damage at the plate: Villarreal scored three runs while going 3-for-3, while Vieth scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That's the most hits Villarreal has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Paxton Czubek, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
South Hills was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, San Dimas earned a 5-1 win over Bonita on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Saints in their matchups with the Bearcats: they've now won three in a row.
Josh Calcanas made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Calcanas was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other pitching news, Joseph Layva looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Ashton Romero was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
South Hills is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. San Dimas picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 5-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South Hills has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like San Dimas struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
South Hills was able to grind out a solid victory over San Dimas in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, winning 9-6. Will South Hills repeat their success, or does San Dimas have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
