OKLEE, Minn. - The defense contributed on the scoring end for
Mahnomen (Minn.) on Saturday, totaling 12 points as the Indians bested
Red Lake County Central/Red Lake Falls (Oklee, Minn.) 46-24.
After taking the lead on a
Tom Pavek touchdown run in the first quarter, the Indians led 33-0 at the half.
Mahnomen expanded its lead to 38 points entering the fourth quarter. MHS scored two times in the third, including once on a defensive touchdown.
With the win the Indians extended their winning streak to 12 games. Mahnomen defeated the Ponies 27-7 last week.
Pavek was the top performer for MHS. The freshman quarterback ran for three touchdowns and kicked four extra points. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
The Rebels came in surrendering 17.6 points per game this season. Red Lake County Central/Red Lake Falls struggled against the Indians' offense, which entered the game scoring 25.4 points per game.
A 47-8 Mahnomen victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The loss comes after Red Lake County Central/Red Lake Falls defeated Fertile-Beltrami 24-20 last week. The loss snapped RLCCRLF's 2-game winning streak.
