Basketball Recap: Leadership Public Schools Richmond Takes a Loss

Leadership Public Schools Richmond was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 25-14 to the Mare Island Tech Academy Griffins. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pumas this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-18 back in December of 2024.

Mare Island Tech Academy was led to victory by Alissandra Junio and Kassandra Datiles. Junio posted seven points in addition to nine boards and five blocks, while Datiles scored ten points and four steals. Junio has become a key player for Mare Island Tech Academy: the team is 3-1 when she posts at least five blocks, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Juliana Contreras, who had two points and six steals.

Leadership Public Schools Richmond's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Mare Island Tech Academy, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-4.

Leadership Public Schools Richmond will host Arise at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Leadership Public Schools Richmond is facing Arise at the right time seeing as Arise is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Mare Island Tech Academy, they will face off against John Henry at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Mare Island Tech Academy's defense has only allowed 27.5 points per game this season, so John Henry's offense will have their work cut out for them.
